Action around Bethlehem Children with Disability

Improving the quality of life of children with disabilities across the West Bank

The Centre for Rehabilitation Al Arroub Camp

ABCD was approached by Al Arroub Refugee Camp Rehabilitation Centre for help and they have become our latest partner in 2019.

Nur Shams Refugee Camp

The children clearly enjoy their treatments – to watch a child of four who has never walked take his first steps, initially aided by the parallel bars and then to launch off unaided is truly wonderful

Bethlehem Arab Society for Rehabilitation

Some children will be admitted to the BASR for initial diagnosis and treatment. They will then be set on a rehabilitation programme before they return home.

Jalazone Refugee Camp

Life for refugee children in this camp is particularly harsh. Unemployment stands at 60%, there are high levels of disability, with limited services in place to address this. The supply of water to the camp is often rationed, and extreme poverty and overcrowding prevail.

The Sheepfold

Despite the upsurge of violence across the region, The Sheepfold continues to help children and young people with a wide range of special needs, especially those with no other place to go with severe disabilities.

Music Therapy

Music Therapy is a powerful medium which helps children who may struggle to express themselves. This project was initiated in 2015 by ABCD Trustee and Music Therapist, Canon Claire Tillotson, in conjunction with Paediatric Psychiatrist Dr Souha Shehadeh, who leads the Bethlehem Arab Society for Rehabilitation (BASR) Mental Health Team.

To raise funds to support the work of ABCD Bethlehem, we’re pleased to announce the launch of PalArt 2020, an online auction of original artworks by British, Palestinian and international artists.

We are looking for small original works of art, framed or unframed—paintings, etchings, drawings, linocuts, embroideries, silhouettes. These can be donated anonymously or signed, with your biography (and link to your chosen website) featured on palart.org.uk. Online bidding for the artwork will open from July 1st.

The money raised will go towards ABCD Bethlehem’s work supporting children and their families in and around Bethlehem and at the three West Bank refugee camps where we help establish, equip and staff disability centres which are havens of peace and aid in a very troubled area. The need is pretty dire due to major cut-backs in UN funding. The charity is now in its 34th year of helping children.

If you can help, please let us know by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., completing the online form at palart.org.uk, or by phoning Anthony Glaister on +44 (0)7711 423649. Arrangements for posting or collecting the donated artworks will be supplied.

We appreciate that this is a big ask, and thank you so much for your support.
