Ein Beit al Ma Refugee Camp

19931

Ein Beit al Ma, also known as ‘Camp No. 1’ was established in 1950. As one of the smallest camps, overcrowding forces the residents to build upwards. The narrow streets and lack of recreational space negatively impacts on the mental and physical health of the community. All this makes life for a child with disabilities unbelievably tough.

The Ein Beit al Ma Health Centre was established in 2001 to meet the needs of children with disabilities in the camp. However, due to lack of resources, physiotherapy and occupational therapy has not been available to the community.

ABCD is working with the Health Centre and UNWRA to renovate the building and equip the space and are working with a project team to facilitate the provision of holistic rehabilitation services.

The aims of the centre are:

  • Rehabilitation of children with disabilities and support their integration into the community
  • Education and health promotion of children and their families to understand disability
  • Ensure the sustainable running of the health centre
  • Speech and language therapy
  • Delivery of home adaptation
  • Supply assistive devices
  • Social activities
  • Health promotion sessions
