Askar refugee camp is located close to Nablus in the north of the West Bank with a population of 20,000. Disability in the camp is a significant and under-addressed humanitarian issue.

ABCD’s aim is to establish a complete and well structured rehabilitation programme that will offer the following therapies – physiotherapy, occupational and speech and language therapy and education for children with special needs – so that all areas of rehabilitation will be given in one place without need to travel.

Research confirms that at least 120 children with disabilities in the Askar refugee camp require specialised rehabilitation. These children rely on comprehensive support programs to access vital medical care, speech therapy, nutritional assistance, and assistive devices to enhance their autonomy and integration into the community.

Individual rehabilitation plans will be established for each child – that is for both children with physical needs such as Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, and Spina Bifida and those with special educational needs to include traumatised children and those with psychosocial problems.
