Al am’ari camp update

Am’ari camp is located East of Ramallah city in al-Bireh municipality, and is one of the smallest camps in the West Bank with an estimated population density of 161,792 per sq km. Prior to our partnership with the camp, they were unable to offer rehabilitation services, and now, as the Centre is developing, initially supporting 7 children, this has increased to 15, with plans to double this number soon. These photos show the positive impact of ABCD’s work. 

As of 2023, there are 15,315* Palestine refugees registered in the camp, and this growing population remains a challenge for service provision, as well as on the existing infrastructure, contributing to overcrowding and poor living conditions. Residents in Am’ari report that unemployment in the camp is rising, especially among young men. This rate has increased substantially in recent years, and is, in part, due to the decrease in the number of Israeli work permits issued to camp residents. 

Am’ari camp has two UNRWA schools, a boys and a girls school, both located at the border, educating 1,086 students from first to ninth grade. Just one UNRWA health centre provides primary health services including reproductive health, infant and childcare, immunisations, screening and medical check-ups and treatment.
