Rehabilitating injured and traumatised children of Gaza

Over 10,000 children have lost limbs and sustained life changing injuries in Gaza and so many more have been traumatised. What little help is available provides basic medical care, with little in the way of rehabilitative care still available after over 500 days of destruction dispossession and expulsion. Injured children need mobility aids like wheelchairs and walking frames. They need to learn how to walk again, to make best use of whatever limbs they have left. Those without physical injuries are traumatised without access to any mental health therapy. The WHO report of July 2024 said:
‘At least one quarter or 22 500 of those injured in Gaza by 23 July are estimated to have life-changing injuries that require rehabilitation services now and for years to come, according to a World Health Organization (WHO) analysis of the types of injuries resulting from the ongoing conflict in Gaza: Estimating Trauma Rehabilitation Needs in Gaza using Injury Data from Emergency Medical Teams. ’

ABCD Bethlehem has a 40 year track record of providing the equipment and care that these children desperately need by working with hospitals since 1985 and within the last 10 years starting children’s rehabilitation centres in 6 refugee camps in the West Bank. With this experience we can reach out into Gaza and make a difference to some children’s lives to give them a degree of independence and hope both to them and their families. With only small overheads covered by other donors, every penny, every dollar, every euro raised here will help our work with injured and traumatised children in Gaza. The funds raised will go to the AL Ahli Hospital in Gaza City to purchase and deliver mobility aids and provide more therapeutic care in their children’s centre for both these children and the thousands more with physical and mental disabilities.
