Summer Bulletin 2025

Dear Friends of ABCD,

We continue to live through incredibly difficult and depressing days for those of us who believe in peace and reconciliation in the Middle East. The daily news leaves us reeling and it is hard to imagine what impact this volatility must have on Palestinians and Israelis.

Our Summer Bulletin reflects something of the horror of the current reality as well as containing glimmers of hope.

We find hope in the sheer steadfastness of ABCD’s partners on the ground who continue to open their door sand offer life-changing therapies against a backdrop of existential uncertainty. The impact of the conflict on our therapists and managers cannot be overstated and that is why we are planning a training conference in Amman this summer which is as much about respite as it is about professional development.

We find hope too in the generous and imaginative ways that you – our supporters – continue to raise much needed funds. The bulletin includes news of four such initiatives thanks to Bruce Carter, Anna Farid, Francis Fitzalan Howard and Matthew Taylor.

But we are realistic about the challenges of working in the current environment. We share news of the heart-breaking closure and partial destruction of our centre in Nur Shams; and we recognise the chronic uncertainty faced by every UNRWA refugee camp as the Israeli assault on all UN facilities continues.

Hope hangs by a thread. But hope lives nevertheless. We shall not abandon our calling and thanks to you we will still be here when better days arrive. Thank you for standing with Palestinian families in these darkest of days. Together we are keeping the lamp of hope alight.
