Hope Through Hearing: Mohammad and Zain’s journey to hearing

Thanks to rehabilitation funded by your donations, brothers Mohammad and Zain are now learning new words, new sounds and new ways to communicate after years of struggling to hear the world around them.

Both brothers were diagnosed with moderate to severe hearing loss at a young age, Mohammad at two and Zain at three, giving them the best possible chance to develop strong speech, language and communication skills. But without affordable access to hearing aids and specialist care, their family simply couldn’t get the support they needed in time.
As the months passed, the critical early window for language development began slipping away. Unable to hear clearly, the boys struggled to learn new words and sounds, and found it hard to benefit from speech and language therapy. Bit by bit, their confidence began to fade.
Eventually, Mohammad and Zain did receive hearing aids, but the cost placed a serious strain on the family, making it difficult to continue attending rehabilitation sessions. By the time they reached five and six years old, both boys urgently needed intensive support to make up for lost time.
Today, thanks to rehabilitation funded by your donations, Mohammad and Zain are thriving. They attend regular sessions where they’re developing listening skills, building vocabulary and communicating more confidently with the people around them.
But without ABCD’s support, Mohammad and Zain may never have received the help they needed to hear, learn and play.
Their story shows that early diagnosis alone isn’t enough. Children also need affordable treatment and timely access to care. That’s why our new audiology centre at Al Am’ari camp is so vital. It will provide low-cost hearing assessments, affordable hearing aids and ongoing speech and language therapy, removing financial barriers so families ike Mohammad and Zain’s can get help early, not years too late.
